Summary:

Erosion and erosion-corrosion remain major threats to asset integrity in the oil and gas industry, as well as other sectors. To control and manage erosion effectively, it is necessary to first identify the various erosion mechanisms applicable for a given equipment, implement suitable barriers to control and mitigate erosion, assess the performance of those barriers through monitoring and inspection methods, and develop a robust erosion management strategy.

This presentation aims to address the various erosion mechanisms applicable to the oil and gas sector, as well as erosion control and monitoring methods. An important part of this presentation is to provide clear descriptions and guidelines about erosion modeling and rate prediction for each different erosion mechanism, and how to deal with cases where multiple mechanisms are present. This is a crucial topic to address during the design stage of any project for the purposes of materials selection and pipe sizing.

About the Presenter:

Dr. Mohammad Seyed Hosseini is an accomplished materials and corrosion engineer with over 24 years of experience in the oil and gas industry. He has worked with some main EPCI contractors and major operators. Currently, he holds the position of Technical Director at London Petrotech Engineering Ltd and is a Principal Consultant at Subsea 7, based in London.

In addition to his industry accomplishments, Dr. Hosseini holds an academic position in the UK, where he has spent years lecturing, researching, and supervising postgraduate students. He has delivered several training courses to institutions and directly to oil and gas companies on topics such as Basics of Corrosion, Corrosion Control and Materials Selection for Upstream Hydrocarbon Production, Corrosion Integrity Management, and more.

Dr. Hosseini’s credentials include Chartered Engineer (CEng) and Chartered Scientist (CSci) status. He is a Fellow of the IOM3 and the ICorr. Furthermore, he is a certified API 571/580 inspector and AMPP/NACE-certified Corrosion Specialist (CS) and Senior Internal Corrosion Technologist (SICT).
